The project began with a feasibility study to determine the number of childcare placements that were viable for the site in compliance with national childcare framework and the Local Town Planning Scheme. Development of the brief shortly followed. A single storey Childcare building was proposed, providing for 82 children and 13 staff.

It was important to the client that the building represented a classic Australian residential dwelling that would generate comfort and emulate feelings of ‘ being at home’ for the children. The building was designed with a traditionally pitched roof design including Dutch gables and a prominent modern federation verandah with period turned posts and enclosed soffit. Likewise, the internal layout provides calm and comfort with the inclusion of a 2 way fish tank and plenty of natural light provided through large windows and a feature triangular window under the main building gable. A soft material palette as well as residential style picket fencing, and a feature brick and infill front wall provide a perfect integration into the existing residential setting. The project is currently under construction.
